Drilling method
A clean drill hole is the only way the anchor can fulfil its function optimally in the External Thermal Insulation Composite System. Therefore, a thorough evaluation of the substrate is inevitable. The condition and type of the substrate are the crucial factors for the selection of the proper drilling method.
The following drilling methods are possible, depending on the drilling machine or hammer drill:
Rotary drilling: without percussion
Percussion drilling: many percussions with low energy
Hammer drilling: few percussions with high energy
The method for creating the drill hole depends on the substrate and can be seen in the following list:
Use category A (concrete and masonry)
Drilling method: percussion / hammer drilling
Use category B (solid brick, solid sand-lime brick, lightweight concrete brick)
Drilling method: percussion / hammer drilling
Use category C (vertically perforated brick, perforated sand-lime brick, cavity block)
Drilling method: rotary drilling without percussion
Use category D (porous lightweight concrete)
Drilling method: rotary drilling without percussion
Use category E (aerated concrete)
Drilling method: rotary drilling without percussion
Hole drilling
When creating the drill hole, carefully observe the installation parameters specified for the respective anchor type (in particular, the minimum drill hole depth). The precise drill hole geometry is decisive for the load-carrying capacity of the anchor. Always drill at right angles and never change direction during the drilling process. This particularly applies for soft building materials. Before inserting the anchors, clean the drill hole from drilling dust by pulling the drill out several times.
